Welcome to TRICARE Supplements

Did you know… Military retirees that have launched their 2nd career with your organization already have a pre-paid health plan?
It is called TRICARE. The most common oversight by employers is not recognizing that TRICARE can be used as their primary coverage, rather than your employer sponsored health plan. Allowing TRICARE eligibles to opt out of your company’s plan and utilize their military benefit would create a potential cost reduction
EXAMPLE: 500 (eligible) x $4150* = $2,075,000 per year

What are TRICARE and the TRICARE Supplement?

TRICARE is a form of health insurance that is provided to military retirees by the Department of Defense. TRICARE Standard pays approximately 75% of healthcare costs and our Supplement pays the other 25% therefore, providing 100% healthcare coverage.

  How do all employees benefit?

The overall employee population would benefit by having lower health insurance premiums.

TRICARE and our Supplement plan carve out an older segment of prospective AMRA members, potentially lowering the average age on the current plans that you offer. As claims filed tend to increase with age, by carving out this older segment your claims experience would be favorably affected. This would work to the advantage of all employees, non-TRICARE eligibles as well, as premiums on your current medical plans would decrease.

Who is the American Military Retiree Association (AMRA)?

We are a 501c organization which gives voice to military retirees and disabled veterans. AMRA proudly sponsors TRICARE and CHAMPVA Supplements. Our Supplements are underwritten by AEGON Companies and administered by Association & Society Insurance Corporation (ASI).

No. It is a non-competing plan designed to coordinate with a variety of benefit packages. Only a portion of employees are eligible, leaving a sufficient amount to enroll in traditional health plans without disrupting minimum participation requirements.

Is there a minimum participation requirement?

No. A successful enrollment can range from 1-5% of the total employee population.

What are some characteristics of organizations that the plan has benefited?

• They have job sites in areas of high military concentration
• It is an industry that tends to attract military trained employees
